How to Resize an Image for Social Media
Set useful dimensions without stretching an image.
Start with the destination
Platforms change their display areas and may crop images after upload. Check the current size and aspect ratio recommended by the destination platform before creating the final export. Keep important text and faces away from edges that could be cropped.
Keep proportions intact
Upload the image to the Image Resizer and leave aspect ratio lock on. Set width or height, or choose a percentage. If a specific aspect ratio is required, crop first in an editor; forcing unrelated width and height values will stretch the image.
- Use PNG for graphics with sharp text or transparency.
- Use JPEG for photographs when file size matters.
- Use WebP when the destination accepts it.
Export and inspect
Download the resized file and view it on a small screen. If the text is hard to read, adjust the design or crop rather than just increasing pixel count.
