How to Create a Strong Password
Use unique random passwords and protect them well.
Length and uniqueness matter
A strong password is hard to guess and is used for only one account. Reusing a password means a breach at one service may expose your other accounts. Long random strings are generally more resilient than short clever substitutions.
Generate and store safely
Set a useful length in the Password Generator and include several character types if the site allows them. Generate a unique password for each account, then save it in a reputable password manager. Enable multifactor authentication when available.
- Never send a password in a shared document or chat.
- Do not rely on a memorable pattern across accounts.
- If a service restricts symbols, generate a long alternative that meets its rules.
What the meter means
The strength label is an estimate based on random selection and character pool size. It cannot know the account’s security policy or whether you have reused the password.
